The product, which officially arrived locally in March 2026 through distributor Tempo (Aust) Pty Ltd, was recognised for its combination of functionality, accessibility, and modern kitchen design. The iF Design Awards are widely regarded as one of the leading international design competitions, attracting thousands of entries from brands across multiple industries each year.

Unlike traditional microwave ovens that are typically installed at eye level or placed on benchtops, Sharp’s Microwave Drawer is designed to fit underneath kitchen counters. The pull-out drawer system aims to make cooking more practical by reducing the need to lift or reach for hot dishes, an approach intended to improve both safety and ease of use.

The appliance also introduces several convenience-focused features, including a touch-open and close mechanism as well as a hands-free wave-open function. Sharp has paired the design with a simplified control layout and heating technology intended to provide more even cooking performance.

The Microwave Drawer’s compact built-in structure is also designed to free up bench space while offering a cleaner and more integrated kitchen appearance.

Tempo General Manager Nigel Dent said the recognition highlighted growing demand for appliances that combine everyday practicality with premium design. He said the product was created to improve the kitchen experience while delivering a more accessible alternative to conventional microwave layouts.

The Sharp Microwave Drawer is currently available through retailers including E&S, Winnings, and Harvey Norman Commercial across New South Wales and Queensland.

Its Australian launch marks a broader push toward integrated kitchen appliances that prioritise both design and usability, particularly as more consumers look for space-saving solutions in modern homes.
